Kick-off Meet the Partner Event

On the 21st of February the Meet the Partners Kick-Off event took place. It was an online event to stimulate early contacts between the participating student teams and the SensUs partners. For both parties, it is was a great opportunity to start off the year, to network and to get to know each other's interests.

The online event was a new initiative and an innovative way to stimulate collaboration and information sharing on a worldwide scale in the field of Sensors for Health. This pilot went very well and inspires us into new ways to bring stakeholders together (students, research groups, companies, healthcare professionals, patient organizations, innovation stakeholders) and enable them to develop new ideas.

Interview Eric-Jan Kroot

Each year, we conduct interviews with professionals and patients who are related to the theme of SensUs, in order to highlight the societal relevance of the theme. The first interview of this year was with dr. Eric-Jan Kroot, rheumatologist in a hospital in the South of the Netherlands. We talked about his profession, how the profession is changing through the years, how adalimumab is used in the treatment, what the future will look like for rheumatoid arthritis patients and about the SensUs student competition. Take a look at the interview here

The High Schools Project Kick-off

The SensUs High School Project is in full swing and was kicked-off in a fun afternoon with a lecture and a workshop. There were 47 students from 8 schools who attended this lecture. They learned the basics about biosensing and received explanations about their assignment. A TRIZ workshop was given by Hans Baaijens and Christoph Dobrusskin. TRIZ is a problem-solving and analysis tool based on the study of innovations and patents. Finally, the students learned in a literature training how to use search terms and be critical about sources. Rheumatism is characterized by certain autoantibodies, one of which is ‘anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide’, also called anti-CCP. The assignment for the High Schools Project is to devise a concept for a biosensor that measures the concentration of anti-CCP in a drop of blood.

The SensUs Alumni Network

The SensUs Alumni Network is getting shape. We are proud to announce that over 10 SensUs Alumni from 7 countries will become a SensUs Ambassador. SensUs Ambassadors represent SensUs in their country, manage the local SensUs Alumni and expand the SensUs Network. The first Local Alumni events were a great success and we are looking forward to host many more.
Next months, we will focus on finding more Ambassadors and continue the development of SensUs Connect.
